Biographical Note
Nicolin J. Plank Gray was born in Yakima, Washington in 1921 and joined the Whitworth College faculty in 1952. Her 28 years of teaching a variety of biology classes gave her the opportunity to integrate her Christian faith with the subjects she loved. She was a mentor to women in science. Her familiarity with the mushrooms of the Inland Northwest was important to the Poison Center established for a time at Spokane’s Deaconess Hospital. Its removal to Seattle was a distinct loss to the children of Spokane and Eastern Washington.
