Biographical Note

Robert William (Bob) Fischer was born on March 31, 1883. From 1936 to 1937, he was the president of the Rotary Club in Walla Walla, Washington. He was also a member of the Blue Mountain lodge of the Masons, and the Scottish Rite bodies of Walla Walla. He was a reporter and city editor for the Walla Walla Daily Bulletin newspaper from 1906 to 1912, and then later returned to the Walla Walla Union where he held the positions of city editor, news editor, and managing editor, until the papers merged in 1934. He then served as the news editor and unofficial historian until he died on March 30, 1949.

Content Description

The Robert William Fisher Papers, which date from 1910 through 1949, primarily contain newspaper clippings of articles written by Fisher between 1910 and 1949. Spread out over six scrapbooks bound into two volumes, as well as an additional loose-leaf binder owned by Fisher, the collection includes articles written about events in and around Walla Walla, Washington. Fisher's index to his scrapbooks is included. The collection also contains letters written to and from Fisher dating from 1935 until 1947, many from an ongoing correspondence between Fisher and historian Jerome Peltier.
