Historical Note
Technology Services at Whitman College, also referred to as WCTS, evolved gradually from the informal administration of campus computing resources into a dedicated support unit for digital infrastructure. Beginning in the late 20th century, computer labs and early multimedia initiatives were coordinated through student services and overseen by the Dean of Students' Office. Records dated from the 1980s and 1990s, part of student services and PC lab documentation, mark a period of significant growth and informal tracking of technology usage on campus.
Gradually, as campus technology needs became essential to teaching and administration, Whitman formalized a centralized IT department known as Technology Services. The current mission, according to the college website, is to enhance the educational process and facilitate individual and institutional excellence through technology management and support.
